WE’VE commented before on the fact that Suzuki’s long-in-the-tooth GSX-R1000 is starting to look like a bargain thanks to a price tag that’s as old fashioned as the rest of the bike and now Suzuki is hammering that fact home with a 0% finance option that lets you ride one away with a £1 deposit.

Using Suzuki’s own finance calculator, with a minimum £1 deposit, a non-ABS GSX-R1000 (£10,735 on the road) will set you back £223.63 per month over 48 months, with no interest whatsoever being applied to the loan.

And that’s not a PCP deal with a whopping final payment to make and limits on the mileage – it’s straightforward HP, so the bike is all yours once the last payment’s made. It really doesn’t seem that much to pay for a brand new bike that will still destroy most things on the road (and the track, for that matter.)

In fact, the £1 deposit, 0% finance deal is available over up to 48 months on all the GSX-R models. Use it on a cheaper GSX-R600, and chuck in a realistic trade-in worth £4000, and the payments spread over four years can drop below the £100-per-month mark.

The V-Strom 1000, V-Strom 650, Hayabusa, SFV650, GSR750, C800, M800 and Burgman 400 are also all available under the 0% finance offer.

Hillier to ride supercharged Ninja H2R on demo lap

James Hillier has a busy TT ahead of him with entries in all bar two classes. Now the 30-year-old Quattro Plant Kawasaki rider has added a lap of the historic course on the new supercharged Ninja H2R to his TT agenda on June 10.

Already one of very few riders to circulate the 37 ¾ mountain course at over 130mph average, Hillier has been invited by Kawasaki Motors UK and the TT festival organisers to ride the 300 plus horsepower machine as part of a Monster Energy parade lap that will also include WSBK riders including Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes who will be mounted on race replica Ninja ZX-10R machines.

The exclusive Ninja H2R is one of a very limited production run by Kawasaki that has been created using the company’s unique aerospace and gas turbine technology as well as the enthusiasm of the motorcycle division.

With Supercharged competition motorcycles a long distant memory in TT racing circles, the raucously loud and visually intimidating Ninja H2R is yet another “must see” feature of the 2015 festival.

“I’ve seen the road going Ninja H2 at Bournemouth Kawasaki where the Quattro Plant team is based but this is something else altogether,” said Hillier, who was trusted to transport the machine to the TT paddock. “I can’t wait to hear the sound echo around the first part of the course and then let it rip up the mountain mile – it’s going to be a mega experience!”

A NEW rig lets bikers pull-off the perfect rolling stoppie without any risk of face planting the tarmac.

Stunt Asylum school in the UK has unveiled its latest homebuilt contraption to teach wannabe stunt riders the technique.

The rolling rig is built around a Yamaha Fazer and comes with an adjustable bar to control the height the rear wheel lifts, allowing nervous novices to slowly build their confidence.

It also has a set of shopping trolley-like stabilising wheels to prevent the front end from washing out under the force of sudden braking.

It looks great fun and could be the answer for those who fancy themselves as the next Christian Pfeiffer but don’t fancy throwing their own bike down the road.

The learn to stoppie courses cost £240 from locations in Surrey and Ess** and the bikes are provided. Riders will need to wear appropriate gear and show their full bike licence or ACU racing licence.

THE demise of Erik Buell Racing appears to have had a knock-on effect on the HX250R sports bike the company has been helping to engineer for its Indian shareholder Hero.

The HX250R, which is due to go on sale worldwide, marking Hero’s first big push outside its home market, is understood to be largely developed by EBR, with shipping documents from India showing that a steady stream of prototypes have been being flown from America to India over the last year. There was even a rumour, prior to the collapse of EBR, that the bike might be sold under the Erik Buell Racing brand in some markets.

With a 31hp, 250cc single, the HX250R is aimed firmly at machines like Honda’s CBR250R (still sold as a 250 in some markets despite being replaced by the CBR300R in Europe). Relatively simple and likely to be something of a bargain, its on-paper specification looks promising. Fortunately for Hero, the last remaining bikes to be at EBR’s premises are believed to have been shipped over to the firm just as the American company closed its doors.

Although it’s been shown already, and the large number of prototypes – in both ABS and non-ABS form – suggests that it’s close to being ready, the latest news from India is that the firm’s original plan to have the bike on sale before the end of 2015 has fallen by the wayside. Presumably that’s at least in part down to the reduced R&D resources now that EBR is no longer in a position to a**ist with its development.

Even so, the HX250R is still very much a live project and is likely to go on sale – in India at least – in the first half of 2016.

Marquez complains RC213V has too much power

HONDA Racing Corporation’s Vice President has explained Marc Marquez is having a difficult season due to Yamaha’s competitiveness and the power of the Honda RC213V.

In an interview with Movistar TV before the Mugello race, HRC Vice President Shuhei Nakamoto said: “The result was not as good as we expected, he couldn’t manage the front tyre at Le Mans and for various reasons we couldn’t get a result.

 “Marc was not happy, with the machine, machine set up, engine characteristics… many things. Marc’s complaint is that there is too much torque or too much power, this we can manage! If Marc was complaining that there was not enough power, then it’s the opposite: we cant.”

Discussing the competitiveness of the Movistar Yamaha’s, Nakamoto continued: “Yeah of course Yamaha made a big step forward at Le Mans, but if the race conditions were the same as the warm up period, I think Marc would have won easily.

“He is improving, he has already changed his riding style. Once we can find a good set-up on the engine side and the chassis side, we have an opportunity to close in on and even overtake top riders.”

“Marc was second at Jerez, but he had an injury to his finger, also his race time was twenty seconds faster than last year, so our machine has improved.

“There are several reasons we could only win one race so far. We have several ideas we already applied in Mugello, and we have another idea for the next two or three races… I cannot explain the details of this! [laughs]”.

The reigning World Champion is fifth in the Championship standings and 49-points behind Championship leader Valentino Rossi on-board the YZR-M1.

Pedrosa pleased with postsurgery results

REPSOL Honda’s Dani Pedrosa is pleased with his recovery since undergoing surgery for arm pump issues.

The Spaniard finished fourth at Mugello after qualifying in 7th thanks to Andrea Dovizioso retiring and his team-mate Marc Marquez crashing out of contention.

Pedrosa overtook Dovizioso on lap 12, but was then passed by Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi on the same lap who eventually finished third. 

However, Pedrosa’s team-mate Marquez crashed out just before the end meaning he crossed the line in fourth place just off the podium, three seconds behind Rossi.

 “I’m happy overall, especially because my forearm is getting better all the time,” explained Pedrosa. 

“Today I had a fairly good race, right through to the end. I was able to fight with some other riders and confirm that every week I’m getting better. It has been positive. Now we have to work on the bike to try to develop it and get better results at the coming races!”

Pedrosa is now 13th in the Championship standings after missing several races as he recovered from arm pump surgery.

Crutchlow dislocates ankle in Mugello crash

ISLE OF MAN resident Cal Crutchlow crashed out of fifth place at the Italian Grand Prix and dislocated his ankle with only three laps to go due to front end issues with the RC213V. 

The CWM LCR Honda rider defied a hand injury sustained from a nasty fall in warm-up to take part in the race, but having battled with front end issues throughout the race, the Honda got the better of the Brit as he crashed out at the fast Turn 8 and sustained a dislocated ankle.

Crutchlow said: “It’s very disappointing for the whole CWM LCR Honda team. We had what I thought was a good weekend up until the race. This morning I had a very heavy crash in the warm-up and had a big impact on my hand, so I thought it was a good showing to be racing in the position that I was.

“We had the 38 front tyre which meant steering the bike was not easy, but overall we were not so far off the factory guys and with the right setting I think we could have been higher.

“Unfortunately the front tyre failed me in the end and just tucked under at a very fast corner. My foot got caught in the back of the bike and dislocated my ankle so I’m in a lot of pain and we’ll have to monitor the situation but I’ve had good treatment.

“Obviously I’m really disappointed because it was a good race and a good showing and Honda are working very hard for us to improve so we need to come back stronger in Barcelona hopefully.”
